About the Role
We are looking for compassionate and committed Senior Support Workers to join our Supported Living services.
You will provide person-centred support to adults with learning disabilities and autism, enabling them to live full, independent lives as active members of the community. This role is about partnership, empowerment, and supporting people to achieve their goals in everyday life.
Your work will be guided by Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) principles and Norwood’s commitment to evidence-based practice, dignity, and inclusion.
This is meaningful, hands-on work where your impact is visible every day.

Your Day-to-Day
Your role will be varied and active. You’ll:
- Provide personalised support in line with individual support plans.
- Enable people to maximise independence and participate in social, cultural, educational, and employment opportunities.
- Support with personal care respectfully and maintain dignity at all times.
- Assist with manual handling where required, including use of specialist equipment.
- Administer medication safely in line with policy and training.
- Contribute to Individual Learning Plans and life-long learning goals.
- Support with domestic tasks including cooking, cleaning, and laundry.
- Use Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) and non-aversive approaches to support individuals with complex behaviours.
- Build positive relationships with families, advocates, and professionals.
- Respond calmly and confidently in emergencies or challenging situations.
Experience, Qualifications & Training
Essential:
- Experience supporting people with learning disabilities, autism, or complex needs.
- Understanding of person-centred approaches and inclusive support.
- Ability to communicate effectively with individuals, families, and professionals.
- Willingness to provide personal care and support with domestic tasks.
- Resilient, calm under pressure, and solution-focused.
- Flexible to work evenings, weekends, sleep-ins, and nights as required.
Desirable:
- Experience using Positive Behaviour Support frameworks.
- NVQ Level 3 (or willingness to undertake qualification).
- Understanding of safeguarding, Mental Capacity Act, and DoLS.
- Clean driving licence and willingness to drive service vehicles.
- Knowledge of Jewish culture.

A bit more information: Cardinal Avenue is a supported living service in Borehamwood supporting middle-aged men with mild to moderate learning disabilities and autism, who do not have mobility needs or complex health conditions.
The service operates from a semi-detached house with three ensuite bedrooms, a large kitchen and dining area, a lounge overlooking the garden, and dedicated space for staff administration and sleep-in shifts.
Located close to the town centre, the service benefits from nearby shops, local amenities, good public transport links, and free on-street parking.
The service is grounded in person-centred and active support, with Positive Behaviour Support plans guiding emotional regulation and anxiety management, and is delivered in line with Norwood’s values of kindness, respect, belonging and empowerment, promoting dignity, independence and meaningful choice.
