Support Worker, Female (Copper Beech)

About the Role

We’re looking for dedicated Support Workers to join our team, supporting adults with complex needs in a residential setting.

You’ll work as part of a supportive team delivering person-centred care and building positive, trusting relationships with the people you support.

This is more than a care role.  It’s an opportunity to help individuals live meaningful, fulfilling lives in an environment that values dignity, choice and independence.

About Norwood

Founded in 1795, Norwood is the oldest Jewish charity in the UK.  We support and empower neurodiverse children and their families and people with neurodevelopmental disabilities to live their best lives.

At Norwood, you will make a real difference every day.  You will be part of a supportive and inclusive team where kindness is shown in how we care, respect shapes how we work together, belonging ensures everyone feels valued, and empowerment enables people to thrive.

We invest in your growth, care about your wellbeing, and give you the pride of knowing your work changes lives.

Your Day-to-Day

Your role will be varied and active. You’ll:

  • Support people with their personal routines including personal care and meal preparation

  • Encourage independence through life skills like budgeting, shopping and social outings

  • Help people enjoy hobbies and interests: swimming, music, arts and outdoor activities

  • Accompany residents to health appointments and trips out

  • Work closely with our Physical Activity Practitioner, including in the hydrotherapy pool

  • Contribute to household tasks and maintain a welcoming home environment

  • Use a range of communication methods (Makaton, objects of reference, expressions)

  • Drive the home vehicle for activities and appointments (only, if you’re a driver)

Experience, Qualifications & Training

Essential:

  • Previous experience supporting adults with neurodevelopmental disabilities

  • Confident using alternative communication methods

  • Awareness of safeguarding practices

  • Comfortable working in a hydrotherapy setting (no swimming required)

  • Able to commit to full-time hours, including weekends

Desirable:

  • Emergency First Aid, Moving and Handling, or Medication Administration training

  • Full, clean UK driving licence

If you’re values-led and eager to learn, we also offer paid training and qualifications in Health & Social Care (Level 2–5).

We believe great support starts with great staff.  Here’s what we offer:

  • Fully funded induction and training

  • 25 days annual leave + 8 Bank Holidays (FTE)

  • Enhanced parental pay

  • Employee Assistance Programme

  • Health cash plan covering dental, optical, and therapy treatments, with virtual GP access, private consultations, and wellbeing tools via the My Medicash App

  • Blue Light Card scheme access

  • £300 refer-a-friend bonus

  • Career development pathway

A bit more information:  Copper Beech is a single-storey home within the Ravenswood Estate, supporting four adults aged 20s to 60s with moderate to severe neurodevelopmental disabilities, including profound learning disabilities, autism, and additional needs such as epilepsy and mental health conditions as well as behaviours that challenge.

Some residents communicate non-verbally; others use PECS, body language, gestures, or objects of reference. Each person has a Positive Behaviour Support plan, and your role will involve building strong, individualised communication and support routines.

Residents enjoy a calm, structured environment with personalised activities, routines and opportunities for social engagement. Support needs include daily living tasks, personal care, leisure activity (such as swimming, rebound, walk/cycling & so on) and help to access the community.

Shifts follow a 24-hour pattern, with days as well as waking night cover.  The rota is planned around the needs and preferences of the people supported, not the other way around. You’ll be joining a tight-knit, values-led team committed to Kindness, Respect, Belonging, and Empowerment.

Safe Recruitment:  Norwood is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the children, young people, and adults we support.  This role is subject to safer recruitment checks in line with CQC Regulation 19, and appointment is conditional upon satisfactory pre-employment checks, including Right to Work in the UK and a DBS check appropriate to the role.
