Norwood has a unique position as one of the largest Jewish providers of support to people of all ages with a neurodevelopmental disability and neurodiversity. We are both a modern provider of social care to many people and a charity with a long legacy of serving the Jewish community. Every day, our services empower people to live fulfilling lives with dignity, independence and belonging.
We are seeking new Trustees to join our Board and help guide Norwood through its next chapter of strategic delivery, growth and impact.
Serving as a Trustee offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a mission-driven organisation and ensure it remains well governed, financially sustainable and responsive to the communities it serves.
The role
Trustees are responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of Norwood, ensuring the charity is well-run, solvent and delivering its charitable objectives.
Working collaboratively with fellow Trustees and the Executive team, you will:
- provide strategic oversight and guidance,
- ensure effective governance structures and processes are in place
Board Purpose Statement
- monitor organisational performance, risk and financial sustainability
- safeguard Norwood’s reputation and long-term viability
- support delivery of strategic priorities and charitable outcomes
- act as an ambassador and advocate for Norwood
Trustees also contribute through committee work and may support fundraising, partnerships and stakeholder engagement.
Who we are looking for
We welcome applications from individuals with strategic leadership experience and a commitment to good governance.
We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in:
- Social care or safeguarding
- Finance, audit or risk
- HR, workforce or organisational development
- Governance and regulatory compliance
- Public policy and influencing
- Fundraising, partnerships or community engagement
- Lived experience or strong links with the Jewish community

We are seeking individuals who:
- demonstrate integrity, independence and sound judgement

Time commitment
The Board meets four times per year, and each committee meets four times per year. Trustees are expected to:
- serve on at least one committee, (committee meetings are virtual)
- prepare for and attend meetings
- engage with Norwood’s work and sector developments
- occasionally represent Norwood at events or forums
