Bank Driver (Blenheim Avenue)

About the Role

We’re looking for reliable, safety-focused Drivers to join Norwood on a bank basis, supporting the safe and comfortable transport of people who use our services.

This is a flexible role where you’ll play a key part in enabling individuals with learning disabilities, autism, and neurodevelopmental needs to access their community, attend activities, and stay connected.

You’ll be trusted to manage journeys independently while ensuring every trip is safe, respectful, and well organised.

Your Day-to-Day

You’ll:
• Safely transport passengers using Norwood vehicles, including minibuses
• Ensure the safety, comfort, and dignity of passengers at all times
• Plan routes effectively and keep accurate journey records
• Carry out vehicle safety checks, reporting defects and arranging maintenance
• Support the safe use of wheelchair lifts and securing equipment
• Respond calmly to incidents, breakdowns or unexpected changes
• Keep vehicles clean, safe and roadworthy
• Work flexibly, including occasional evenings and weekends
• Support with light administration linked to transport where required

Experience, Qualifications & Training

Essential:
• Full, clean UK driving licence
• Confident, safe and responsible driving style
• Strong awareness of health and safety
• Good communication skills and ability to work independently
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and adapt to changing situations

Desirable:
• Experience driving passengers with disabilities or using adapted vehicles
• Knowledge of wheelchair restraint systems or tail lifts
• MiDAS (Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme) certification
• Experience in a care, community or customer-facing role
• Understanding of learning disabilities or willingness to learn

A bit more information: The property is a small residential building comprising three self contained flats.  Each flat includes its own kitchen, bathroom and lounge area.

In addition to the individual flats, there are shared communal facilities which include a lounge overlooking the rear garden, a kitchen, a bathroom with a walk in shower, and a laundry room.

The property is not wheelchair accessible.

There is also an office space used by staff for administration and for sleep in shifts.

The service currently supports five adults, whose ages range from their early thirties to early seventies. The people living at the service have moderate learning disabilities and autism, and one older resident is living with dementia.

All residents communicate verbally.

The location is close to the town centre, providing convenient access to shops, local amenities and public transport. Parking is available on the driveway.
