About the Role
We’re looking for reliable, safety-focused Drivers to join Norwood on a bank/casual basis, supporting the safe and comfortable transport of people we support.
This is a flexible role and you will provide support across our London Adult services where you’ll play a key part in enabling individuals with learning disabilities, autism, and neurodevelopmental needs to access their community, attend activities, and stay connected.
You’ll be trusted to manage journeys independently while ensuring every trip is safe, respectful, and well organised.

Your Day-to-Day
You’ll:
• Safely transport passengers using Norwood vehicles
• Ensure the safety, comfort, and dignity of passengers at all times
• Plan routes effectively and keep accurate journey records
• Carry out vehicle safety checks, reporting defects and arranging maintenance
• Support the safe use of wheelchair lifts and securing equipment
• Respond calmly to incidents, breakdowns or unexpected changes
• Keep vehicles clean, safe and roadworthy
• Work flexibly, including occasional evenings and weekends
• Support with light administration linked to transport where required
Experience, Qualifications & Training
Essential:
• Full, clean UK driving licence
• Confident, safe and responsible driving style
• Strong awareness of health and safety
• Good communication skills and ability to work independently
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and adapt to changing situations
Desirable:
• Experience driving passengers with disabilities or using adapted vehicles
• Knowledge of wheelchair restraint systems or tail lifts
• MiDAS (Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme) certification
• Experience in a care, community or customer-facing role
• Understanding of learning disabilities or willingness to learn
A bit more information: Lyonsdown Road is a supported living service in New Barnet supporting four young adults in their 20s and early 30s with moderate to severe learning disabilities, cerebral palsy, and full-time wheelchair use.
The service is delivered from a large, detached property that is fully wheelchair accessible on the ground floor, with four bedrooms, two wet-room bathrooms equipped with accessible baths and overhead hoists, modern communal spaces, an interactive sensory room, and a landscaped garden, alongside dedicated areas for staff administration and sleep-in shifts.
The people supported require full assistance with personal care, moving and positioning, and daily living activities, with support tailored to individual communication styles including body language, gestures, short sentences, and Positive Behaviour Support for anxiety or distress where required.
They lead active and social lives, enjoying interests such as football, golf, music, TV, and art, and attend local day centres during the week. Support is provided around the clock to ensure safety, wellbeing, and quality of life, delivered through person-centred and dignified care aligned to Norwood’s values of kindness, respect, belonging, and empowerment.
